I get asked a lot about the podcasts I listen to, the blogs I read and so on. I refer to them a lot throughout the blog and thought I’d start sharing what I’m digging these days. Here is the first of roundup, enjoy!

Mark Manson dropped his new book this week entitled “The Subtle Are of Not Giving A Fuck”. It’s a continuation of  his most popular blog post and one that I have referred to more than once on here and facebook. Mark offers, what he calls ‘personal development that doesn’t suck’, he’s poignant, crass and curses a lot – the perfect combination! I’m pretty excited to dig into this book over the weekend. Just from the first few chapters I’ve read, I’ve said “fuck yeah!” about fifteen times.  I’m sure I’ll have a more detailed post on this book once I finish, stay tuned.

Best quote from chapter one:

The world is constantly telling you that the path to a better life is more, more, more – buy more, own more, make more, fuck more, be more. You are constantly bombarded with the message to give a fuck about everything, all the time.

The problem is that giving too many fucks is bad for your mental health. It causes you to become overly attached to the superficial and fake, to dedicate your life to chasing a mirage of happiness and satisfaction. The key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more; it’s giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important.

I’m a little late to the game on the podcast front, only really getting into them over the last few months. I love grabbing a coffee, walking little Oscar on the beach and tuning in. One of my favourites right now is “Earn Your Happy with Lori Harder“.  She motivates and gets to the heart of what is holding most of us back from living our best life – fear. Fear of failure, rejection, criticism, worthiness and so on. She hits some big topics but approaches them in a palatable, cheerful and nonpreachy way.

Ah music, so near and dear to my heart. I’ve been pounding away at work with a new tech startup on business plans, marketing strategy and financing pitches so need some mellow, yet inspiring background music.  Check out the Mellow Beats playlist on Spotify.

One from Steve Jobs, I’m sure you’ve heard of him.

When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it… Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.

Start living life outside the proverbial box!

Happy Friday!
