Post-Christmas, as one does when they are in southern Thailand, my friends and I headed for the islands. We picked Koh Lanta because it was supposed to be beautiful and a little quieter than Koh Phi Phi or Phuket.
The ferry ride was spectacular, we sat on the front of the boat and got the sun,sea breeze, island views and a few cold Changs to tide us over for the ride. My expectations were high for Koh Lanta after spending Christmas Day on Phra Nang Cave Beach in Railey, probably the most spectacular beach I’ve ever been on.
We hit a bit of a snag when all three of us got super sick and never made it out of our hotel room for a few days. Needless to say, our last day in Koh Lanta was spent on scooters beach hoping, it didn’t disappoint.
We headed to Bangkok for the last two days in Thailand and for New Years Eve. It may be a combination of spending the last 6 weeks at quiet, prestine beaches, spending the last (almost) five years in Vancouver or growing up in a seaside city but my first impressions of Bangkok were that it’s big, busy and dirty. This soul belongs close to water.
We did make the most of our short time in Bangkok and saw a slice of what it had to offer. This week, on to Cambodia!!
Happy New Years all, let’s rock 2017!!
